“Boy, did I ever learn my lesson this year!”
That’s what I said to my wife some time ago while feeling the press of doing my taxes with April 15 looming. I had so many urgent business matters on my plate, too.
Then I caught myself, realizing what I’d said. Who was I kidding? I really didn’t learn any lesson at all. I could tell because my behavior hadn’t changed from last year, or, for as many years as I can remember.
Yeah, I was gonna stay on top of my finances weekly, so when tax time arrived, I could handle it more efficiently and peacefully. Yet here I am again, spending a ridiculous amount of hours sorting my business accounting, just to pay someone to prepare my taxes.
I was merely made aware that it was too late to learn that tax lesson, this year.
Do I need to make a spiritual application? Like, you know, how when we get bashed by a difficult circumstance and vow to be more diligent in our meditation and worship so we won’t be as shaken next time? Ok. Then, I won't.
Don't take my advice, just go to the ant:
Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8
