Many Christians overreacted to the ‘don’t do this and don’t do that’ brand of Christianity by adopting the ‘all things are permissible in moderation’ message. The trouble is that folks in that kind of ‘freedom’ mode loose site of the ‘moderation’ part. Rather than asking the Lord how they might order their lives to please Him in every way, they’re thinking, ‘how far can I stretch the limits and still be a Christian?’
I’ve never heard anyone express his or her freedom in Christ in words like this:
“I am free to employ all my time and energy, every circumstance I encounter, and all the capabilities I possess to the good pleasure and highest praise of my Savior.”
Or:
“The scriptures say, “No good thing will He withhold to them that walk uprightly.” and I’m totally free to take my Lord at His word and taste and see just how good He is.”
Or:
“Who do you think you are to say I’m not free to tell anyone I meet just how powerful and good the Lord Jesus is?”
Nothing can stop you from doing that. That’s the kind of freedom that draws His notice.
How do you express your freedom?
