Weakling: I pray for stronger muscles, but nothing seems to happen.
Advisor: Ok, it's good to pray, but do you go to the gym?
Weakling: No. Why should I go to the gym? God says that if I ask, He will hear and answer my prayer.
Advisor: Sure God will answer our prayers, but in this case wisdom would direct you to continue to pray, and add action to your prayer. Like, if you really want to have stronger muscles, you should accompany prayer with appropriate action: go to the gym.
Two weeks later.
Advisor: How's it going?
Weakling: Well, I've discovered that God does not actually want me to have strong muscles. Lot's of people don't have strong muscles. It may not be my gift. God uses each person uniquely. Some people have big muscles and some don't. I just believe that God is wise and knows what He's doing.
Advisor: Well, did you take my advise?
Weakling: Yeah, of course. I prayed and I went to the gym.
Advisor: Good. So what did you do at the gym?
Weakling: Well, each of the two times I went, I walked around and tried to learn how people were using the equipment. I even tried out some of the equipment. Wow - I could feel it the next morning! I just have to accept that God blesses some people with strong muscles. We all have different gifts. I believe God is totally able to give me strong muscles, but it's clear that's not what He wants for me.
Person wondering: . . .
Hmmmm.
God must not want me to get the degree.
God must not want me to become a good mechanic.
God must not want me to heal people. I pray but it just doesn't happen.
God must not want to save people. I don't pray for people. Nor do I tell them the Good News of Jesus Christ. God knows I'm willing, but He just doesn't open doors for me in that way.
Must not be my gift.
