I have revealed You (Your Name) to those whom you gave me out of the world. John 17:6a
No one in the history of humanity more perfectly believed what he said, and said what he believed, and actually did what he said he believed than Jesus of Nazareth.
All that we can understand and be certain of regarding the motives and deeds of God, is made altogether plain in the words and deeds of Jesus. A doctrine or belief, or even a Biblical revelation that contradicts, falls short of, or modifies Christ’s complete explanation; so much skews a full witness of His Name.
Prior to Christ’s appearance, men’s perceptions and expressions of what God revealed were so many glimpses and shadows. But Jesus was the exact representation of His glory - God’s full witness.
Jesus, knowing how He was able to show forth the likeness of the Father and how impossible it is for a natural man to do so, invited (commanded) His disciples to receive the Promise of the Father. That Promise alone enables men to rightly represent the Living God . . . as Jesus did.
In this day of our discipleship may we, brothers and sisters, embrace the call of our Lord to be endued with power through the Promise of the Father. Let us not let such a costly, holy and astounding promise lay uninhabited through slough or unbelief. But through perseverance and hearty faith and encouragement of the saints, let’s each go in . . . together.
