To prepare His children to enter His promises, God performed lavish miracles of provision in the desert. Mistaking God's care and nurture merely as perpetual blessing, when prompted to enter and possess the promises, they shriveled up and drew back.
Christians today are mostly desert dwellers who assume His favor because He still cares for their needs - sometimes even supernaturally. They feel entitled to God’s continuous blessings because, 'He loves me.' Satisfaction in God’s mercy and miracles for themselves has foiled God’s intention to make them avenues of His mercy and miracles for many others.
God’s commitment to care for His children in the desert never changed. But His shining face over them grew dim. They bowed low to the giant demon, ‘FEAR,’ instead of the Father who’d delivered them from all enemies with a mighty hand; who’d clothed, fed, healed and led them through the desert.
God’s children chose another god. They stiffened their necks and set their feet, saying, ‘this far, and no further.’
In so doing they forfeited their boundless destiny as Sons of the Mighty - victorious inheritors of God’s promises who enjoy His perpetual presence and join Him in doing exploits.
