to go
to stay
twiddle thumbs
or kneel and pray
hold out for change
so sure to come

rail and complain
leave a denigrative stain
or praise and lift
as a cleansing rain
what to wear
what to like
to walk
to run
to ride a bike
where to travel
or stay at home
which trail to hike
with a friend
or all alone
the incline
or the slope
the broad and common way
the rooty steeper path
fueled by hope
toward truth and life
where few will understand you
and fewer still will care to
save He that called your name
who beckoned, 'come up here'
for the joy of My company
leave the murky slough of doubt
rise in hearty faith
yield to the wellspring of love
send fear a-rushing out
take the invisible hand
or keep clenching yours
happily eat His promises
join in his disdain
ascend the summit with Him
at last in precious friendship
evermore remain
