God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Rom 12:3b
The following samples of scripture concerning faith imply something very important. Review them to uncover the common message:
Jesus said to her, Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God? John 11:40
Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Mark 11:23
And Jesus said to him, 'Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.' Luke 14:42
When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth? Luke 18:8
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
For indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard. Hebrews 4: 2
It seems plain that, while we are given a measure of faith, we bear a responsibility to exercise and develop it. Jesus speaks with a presumption that we must increase our faith through intentional use.
We may contest that our measure of faith is quite small, perhaps even, as tiny as a mustard seed? A perfectly reasonable measure of faith would be just about what he gave His disciples and those who received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. They were ordinary guys, just like us.
It is ‘religiously incorrect’ to infer that some brother or sister doesn’t have enough faith to do or receive a thing from the Lord. We fear that such assessment may discourage them. But what if it is true?
If a man cannot lift 100 lbs. over his head, we plainly say, “you do not have enough strength.” Has not God given each one a measure of muscles? Yes, but each one is responsible to exercise and develop them. It's not a tough argument to say that, with a dash of diligence and a portion of persistence, most average men can lift that 100 lbs.
There is a seeming disconnect in the realm of faith/religion, e.g., that God will someday give us enough faith to accomplish His purposes apart from our participation and engagement. Has someday come for you? When do you think it might? What if the faith you have is all you’ll ever get?
If Jesus has said that nothing is impossible to him who believes, it is certain He intended for us to use the faith we already have to believe Him. Indeed, God has given each of us a measure of faith. The power to set its limits, He has given you.
