One of the greatest deterrents to a life of faith is the notion that we must watch ourselves continually.
Watch what you think,and
Watch what you drink,and
Watch what you say, and
Watch how you behave, and
Watch what you watch.
To say that Christianity consists of giving up a rather spontaneous life - a ‘whatever’ ‘whenever’ and ‘however’ we please kind of existence, to one of minding our every thought and motive to avoid offense to the spirit of grace within us, is utterly deflating.
Where’s the upside? If your mountain stands high, your health is vibrant and you’re flush in dollars, it is very difficult to concede that ‘you did not build that’ - to give your glory to Another. You wonder, ‘why should I throttle down my train of success and subject it to the constraints of a God I know little about?’ 'Who wants to live like that?'
We do not watch ourselves. That's where so many get snagged.
We watch him who died for us, and now has
Risen again on our behalf, and
Lives forever making intercession for us, and
Perpetually appropriates his power, his goodness and his righteousness to us.
We so unite to the will of the Lord of life and glory. We are joined to His humility and dressed in the literal power of his might. We fully grasp that freedom from all that hinders us and the happiness in having become instruments, weapons, even plenipotentiaries of the King of Kings, who empowers us to manifest heaven’s substance in this physical planet.
This is the freedom - the destiny - to which we are presently summoned. But if we are ever watching ourselves and looking at our life of faith as shackles to the ‘reasonable’ desires of our natural man, we’ll never understand what it is to be united to that goodness, that power, that endless life which forever eludes the apprehension of mere men.
We are invited into what the word of God calls the glorious freedom of the children of God. Those sons and daughters, happily joined to the Alpha and Omega, go in the strength of His might to establish His world right here in this one.
