It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. The Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death. Free from the law, free from sin, but free to what? If one is free from sickness, pain and torment, that person is now unencumbered. His fully functioning faculties may perform to the highest range of his nature. What does a free person do with himself? A self-centered person will use his unrestrained capabilities to satisfy and exalt himself.
One who knows that his life and its vast gifts are not self-created but given to him, knows inherently that uniting with the source of his life necessarily elevates and completes him. His highest possible state is union with the power which made him.
So, the self-seeking man imagines and fears that yielding himself to the influence of another forfeits a portion of what he considers his own. In this construct he actually insulates himself from the source, power and life from which he came forth.
The Christian is made aware that freedom over his life was made possible by the complete sacrifice of Christ. Aware that he would have no freedom apart from Christ - being incapable of extracting himself from his own prison - he presents his free life fully to Christ for love’s sake. He unites his life, which he did not create, could not liberate, and cannot sustain, to the One who beyond that, ever lives inside him and empowers him to desire and to do immeasurably beyond all he can imagine - becoming one spirit and nature with the Source of Life; whose infinite desire for you is goodness and blessing.
