The presupposition of higher criticism is; ‘anything that appears to break a law of nature, didn’t happen.’ So in one fell swoop, someone(s) ‘undid’ all the miracles of the Bible.
Making such a statement is only a little less stupider than believing it. I think many in the church took that hook, line and sinker because they so wanted a justification for what they couldn’t produce in their own lives. I’m not placing myself above those who believed such things. Like many of us, we tend to believe people we think know more than we do.
I heard a line once that I never forgot: “Man makes a club that beats him.” That’s so true I wish it was in the Bible. When man elevates his intellect above faith in God’s word and testimony, he espouses the most ridiculous things – to his own hurt.
