You called us friends. You have withheld nothing from us. All that You received from the Father You made known to us. You've given us access to the whole of Your heart while Your Spirit abides within us. Nothing do You withhold from them that walk uprightly.

He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Rom. 8:32

This exposes the satanic lie posed to Eve and Adam, that God was holding out on them. That God denied them the fruit of the good tree because He knew that it would make them like God - wise and knowing good and evil.

It was the bait and switch. Accusing God of holding out on them made them consider that possibility. While they considered, they forgot that they already were like God. They already bore His own image, and nothing of all His glory and goodness was withheld.

The same suspicion arises in man today when denied that which he sees no logical reason to forego.

Until we can see that God’s ‘no’ is as good and loving as His ‘yes’ we will always take the bait. We'll hold Him suspect, hold fast to our own life, and refuse Him our surrendered heart.
