No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light. Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.
What is your predisposition when a word of promise falls upon your ears?
When the angel Gabriel declared to Zacharias that he would have a son, how did Zacharias hear?
And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years. Lk 1:16
His questioning was explained thusly by the angel Gabriel: because you did not believe my words . . . Zacharias' unbelief did not please God's messenger, And behold, you shall be silent and unable to speak until the day when these things take place. Lk 1:20
When Gabriel told Mary she would, bring forth a son, how did Mary hear?
Mary also questioned, but for the sake of clarity, that she might give herself to it. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. Lk 1:38
Is there in us a readiness to believe, to apprehend, to increase? Or to analyse, equivocate, hesitate, procrastinate? The natural man places obstacles of reason, disaster, or reputation in front of the promise and demands that the Word of Promise prove it will overpower them.
The man of faith makes of reason his servant, and places the Promisor’s character and reliability before every obstacle. He sets to flight all enemies that defy the armies of the Living God.
Some folks live with the constitution that declares: “Here’s why that won’t work.”
The sons and daughters of the Kingdom say, “God said it. It works. Let’s go boldly in His strength to do it.”
