Christians have the inspired word of God in a book. We have the resident Word of God within. Men and women of faith ought to read, study, pray, and meditate the Holy Scriptures. We should entreat the Holy Spirit to open and apply the scriptures to our minds and hearts. Moreover, that He open the eyes of our hearts to welcome and receive all that He desires to impart.
These attitudes and practices will bye and bye conform the whole of our lives to the likeness of Christ - catching up to the new creatures we've become.
It is imperative that we adjust our lives to what the Spirit chose to reveal in the Word. To do this we must accept and receive it as it is. Not as we wish it to be.
For example: Jesus forbade His followers (not just the 12, but the 70, and all those to whom He spoke.) from proclaiming and promoting His Kingdom until they received appropriate equipment. These guys walked personally with Him three years. Yet, He made them wait for the Promise of the Father. Elsewhere He declares, Apart from Me you can do nothing.
How do we even imagine advancing Jesus’ Kingdom without having the very means, in the same measure He required of the early disciples, before doing the same works? We cannot ignore the basic requirement for proclaiming Christ's Kingdom, and then say we actually believe and regard the Word of God.
WE MUST HAVE THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER.
WE MUST HAVE THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER.
WE MUST HAVE THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER.
O, JESUS, SEND US THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER!
YOU SHALL BE ENDUED WITH POWER THAT YOU MAY BE MY WITNESSES.
Come to God's word with the full conviction that the Spirit He has caused to live in us is the very Spirit who inspired His servants' words and deeds in the Scriptures - that He carefully selected what communications to reveal to us.
Let’s not make this a thing too high or too far. This new life in us is perfectly suited to attract, contain and act out the intentions of the God who made us. It is ever breathing the very ‘oxygen’ of heaven.
Nothing of this Christian life is self-generated. It is born, sustained, developed, and nurtured by God, start to finish. Apart from the literal, continuous, almighty presence of the Holy Spirit, there is no such entity as a disciple of Christ. Without the gift of faith and the exercise of it, none of us can hope to please God.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the miraculous power of the Spirit are ever and always inseparable. If I by the finger of God cast out demons, surely the Kingdom of God has come among you. Paraphrase: 'See the demons flee? Now you know My kingdom is here!'
No power, no Gospel.
Cry to God to rend the heavens. That He might open the floodgates of His Spirit to endue us with His power in the same measure every one in that upper room received – to appropriately make Jesus known in precisely the same manor that those who believed in Him have done.
Without this Promise of the Father operating in us in like measure and like manor as operated in the disciples, our efforts to present a King and a Kingdom to a dying world will never exceed what we see today. God simply will not bless the presentation of His Kingdom by the ingenuity of men. I will not give My honor to another.
The hands of men do not, cannot accomplish the things of God. It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
Let’s be reasonable. Let’s believe the word of God.
We are in the war of the ages. The casualties are too great to continue firing blanks.
