If the miraculous works Jesus and the disciples displayed is the normal lifestyle for His followers, why in the world would we not pursue that lifestyle with all our might?
Why, at least, why would we not try to prove it wrong?
To prove it right or wrong we must utterly and completely believe it and engage in it. You cannot prove that the ice will hold your weight by standing on the banks of the lake discussing it.
You must put your skates on and set off from the bank. You will slip and slide and fall and cry. But get up, no matter what. Persist until you spin and skate, pirouette and glide.
Those on the bank will be gathered round the fire roasting hotdogs, pointing at the fools on the lake. They’ll laugh when you slip and wait for the ice to crack.
The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and left untried. Gilbert K. Chesterton
