We have sometimes met obstacles in believing the promises of God. When we do not see what we pray for we give up too soon. We make an assumption, then declare that God must not want what we are asking for.
From there it’s easy to adopt a spirit of offense toward God. “Why won't He do what He says He will do?” we wonder. At last we descend to what we naturally call a sensible, measured, nuanced approach to our faith. Because we’ve experienced a history of unanswered prayer and have associated with others with similar experiences, we establish that as a tolerable norm. Expectation of answered prayer morphs into a resigned rendition of Que Sera, Sera.
Essentially, it is a collective buy-in of unbelief. It is not reasonable faith, nor accepting reality. It is simply no faith at all. It is subjugating faith in the word of God to our natural understanding. It is acting as a mere men.
Let’s believe again . . . the God who rewards those who diligently seek Him. With fervent faith, let’s spread courage to one another to reach for God’s promises. To reach, to pursue, to falter not until they become ours.
If we go for it, today and onward, we’ll surely prove the words Jesus promised, All things are possible for one who believes.
