Reason, the god of science, the idol of intellectuals, the graven image of modern, enlightened man employs linear logic. It relies solely on measurable and repeatable behaviors and characteristics discernible and observable by the senses and faculties of man's natural capabilities.
That reason and logic cannot observe, measure or prove elements outside of its natural powers is evidence of its limitations. Rather than say, ‘we don’t know,’ the rationalist takes the lofty perch of declaring, ‘because I cannot measure it with my tools it must be imaginary.’ Funny conclusion for men who know with absolute certainty that:
1. they had nothing to do with their own existence
2. they cannot guarantee their next breath,
3. they played no part in making the stars and planets that hang in the heavens, or the earth on which they stand.
The function of the human mind is to serve the spirit of that to which the will is subject. If he bows at the alter of reason, his intellectual faculties are set to reinforce his choice.
Faith is no less a real human faculty. In fact it's a superior barometer. Faith does not dismiss reason, it expands and liberates it to percieve and discern realities beyond the scope of natural means. It embraces and operates in the realm from which visible matter originates.
That which is made (visible), however praiseworthy, is merely the offspring of its maker. The painting, the manuscript, or song is but the tangible rivulet that springs from the painter, writer or composer's unseen torrent.
