Don’t know of a natural man that having read of wise King Solomon having 700 wives and plenteous concubines, has not at some level begun to sing, "Oh, What a Lucky Man He Was.”
Had we finished the book we’d have learned that the very pleasures he took at the snap of his fingers, stole into his heart and blinded his wisdom into outright idolatry toward the God who enthroned him. Forgetting, it seems, that 'what you take - takes you.'
The reasonableness of a sex robot... gorging on the ‘quickie’ slakes the base craving of dogs and pigs, but it robs a human being - rendering parched and cracked his spirit and soul.
People are satisfied with the notion of a thing, yet remain wholly incurious of its genesis.
Fuller revelation does not negate lesser revelation and understanding, it merely supersedes and overwhelms it. Like, a flower is not a stem.
Understanding discovered by moonlight, however meaningful, dissolves in the brilliant light of the midday sun.
One may delight in the discovery of attraction and repulsion shown by a magnet. Is that not an invitation to mystery? To provoke our childlike innocence and fear to wonder at the mind, purpose, wisdom and powers of the One who put such laws into place?
Does the fire that enthralls a little boy's gaze speak merely of the law of combustibility? Or simply the means by which meat is cooked? Or, is it as if God himself is saying,
Didn't I come to bring you a sense of wonder?
Didn't I come to lift your fiery vision bright?
Didn't I come to bring you a sense of wonder in the flame?
Van Morrison
The fire glows and pops and crackles and roars. Its flames roll and dance, and rising; intermingle. It is hot and terrifying, yet mesmerizing and enticing.
However magnificent a painting, it reveals but one aspect or expression of the painter.
The law of love by its nature must be willfully and personally communicated. The process or product is never greater than the source.
Men marvel at the work of scientists who observe unseen laws - who combine and manipulate matter and energy according to known principles. Yet no inventions or discoveries could exist without first acknowledging, bowing, to the laws and matter that existed before man and will continue beyond him.
Man creates nothing essentially, and is forced to play along with what already exists to 'create' something, secondarily.
What happens to a man living in such revelation, when he encounters the Source of all things face-to-face? When he discovers that One, not as an inanimate object, an impersonal law, a mindless force, but a living Creator. A Father of infinite power and inexhaustible love. The One who, in the greatness of His mercy and wisdom put in place all seen and unseen laws for our good; to perpetuate and enhance our lives. Such laws display inexorable proof of His unwavering faithfulness and utter reliability.
Should not a painting make you want more of the painter? Should not the immutable laws of nature or the ceaseless ocean waves command your heart to find and adore their Maker?
Revelations of His attributes are enlightening. And carry a measure of truth. But the Eternal One is not an attribute.
One could live from an instruction manual written by his parents. But it is not the same as growing up in their presence.
Stopping at laws, principles and visible attributes would be as vacuous as performing with a sex robot and calling that truth or reality. Satisfaction in a measure there may be, and for some - still living in a doll house - a sort of pretend reality. But it is and cannot be a wife and a lover.
Even the laws of faith produce outcomes. But that alone cannot be construed as living in union with the Person from whom all faith springs.
Respecting and operating according to the laws of gravity is not the same as worshiping, adoring and communion with the Creator and Sustainer of that law.
Cooperation with the laws that govern our world will give us a benefit. But nothing approaching an intimate knowledge with their Generator.
Following your daddy's instructions on the proper use of the toothbrush has value. But one could not imagine that the instructions were the point. Or, that those instructions could replace the relationship. Such instructions are not daddy. And they do not exist instead of daddy.
Learning to brush one's teeth might make a little boy feel proud and big and smart. But connection to your daddy gives you all that he is, all that he knows, and all that he has.
Settling for a sex robot is worse than merely performing a function. It's seizing on the base natural appetites common to men, beasts and insects, and discarding the universe of joy and bliss, of beauty and wonder for which physical intimacy is but a lure, beckoning us toward the grand adventure.
Little kids sometimes see mommy and daddy as a means to get what they want; toys, snacks, surprises. Some people never get over it. They see others as merely stepping stones for personal elevation or props for setting their own stage.
Sometimes we grow and realize that honoring, favoring, and cherishing another for who they are, is the entrance to all that they are.
