The Lord commands (FOOGAHH, For Our Own Good And His Honor) us to use our voices as instruments of worship:
Shout with joy to the Lord
Sing unto God with the voice of triumph
Declare His mighty works
You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, Here is your God! Is 40:9
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
The Bible does not make concessions for your particular personality type. God doesn't instruct the meek and humble only to meditate quietly upon your bed so you won't draw attention to yourself. If you're worried about calling attention to yourself while you unashamedly offer worship and praise to the Lord with all your might, you are likely not as humble as you may think.
The use of our voice has much value. It not only directs good content to the Lord, it also has impact on our ears, our minds, our spirits, our physical bodies, and our emotions.
The act of such an offering draws from our inner parts. The parts we carefully guard. In the opening of these, we are opened. The realities of our praises open us to the influence of the One to whom they are directed. With such offerings God is pleased. He is enthroned on (or, He inhabits) the praises of His people.
Such offerings stir our affections. We actually feel better once we pass the initial phase of self-consciousness. That in itself is an act of faith. Joy, gladness, delight are ignited. Our soul employs its powers to fulfill our affections.
In fact, smile when you offer praise and sing. Make it a big and happy smile. Bring it big! Bring it joyfully, vibrantly, yes, recklessly. Really GIVE IT UP! Let ALL that is within you, exhalt, magnify, extol, glorify, and in every conceivable way, bless His holy Name.
There are deep springs running beneath the soul. They seek an outlet to flow freely. Men go to counselors, to doctors, to therapists hoping to release these springs. Alas, the Wonderful Counselor calls us to pour out our hearts before Him. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, writes the Psalter, and He heard me out of His holy hill. As He hears you will He not draw near, and make a way for those springs to break through, that deep may call unto deep?
