I don't want to, but I should.
Such is the nature of New Year's resolutions. It wasn't important enough to be part of your life up till now; but from now on . . .
The present state of a true believer (new creation in Christ) is one birth, one will, one life, and one Spirit with Christ.
Because this is already a fact, Paul in his letters, gives hundreds of appropriate instructions for believers to nourish and strengthen themselves in their faith, and keep themselves on the path to living it out, successfully.
Religion, on the other hand, continually prompts people to DO something in order to become or attain something.
It turns those instructions into nagging laws which do exactly the opposite of their intent. Religion makes conduct the primary issue and scores the quality of your life on that basis . . . always striving, never becoming.
How many people of faith really want to become disciples of Christ?
Is that what you want?
Do you want to be who you are?
Do you know who you are?
Do you intend to be who you are?
Do you desire to please your King and Savior?
If your answer is, yes, than that is the burning torch of your life, no one can stop you from doing it.
The perfect life of union in Christ, is to remain yielded to His life continually flowing and working into us, what He's already made us to be.
Our son, Jesse, has a driving desire to hike the Appalachian Trail. Do you think he needs to be told to go to the gym and keep his body in shape?
Does an adoring wife need to be cajoled to love and bless and please her husband?
A new year's resolution is silly to one whose soul rolls and rumbles with thundering flames for that which daily enthralls him.
If you truly intend to please the Lord Jesus with your whole heart, then just go for it and have a ball.
If that is not your intention, then quit pretending. If you must, resolve to take time to consider who you are and what you really want.
The King of your faith should be the joy and delight of your existence. If He's not, figure out why.
If we get the heart right, the rest follows.
Decide what you will love. Your heart will go there anyway.
2 Thes 3:5 Now may the Lord move your hearts into a greater understanding of God’s pure love for you and into Christ’s steadfast endurance.
