God set up the law of sowing and reaping. All things shall reproduce after their own kind. There would be forever, spring time and harvest. This sovereign law governs life in the earth and makes conditions possible for man to experience the wonder of planting and gathering produce. The law brings, not merely food, but enough seed for abundance - a multiplied blessing.

This immutable law works in the unseen world of man’s spirit, as well. If men would sow to righteousness, God would cause increase multiplied 100 fold - even exponentially, from generation to generation.

When a person violates the law which was made for his good, it turns into his curse; his undoing. This fits as a plausible explanation for God’s severe warning to His people. Those who violated His covenant (in the Old Testament) would be visited with sickness and failure of crops. They would be overtaken by enemies, and every imaginable evil would ravage them. God’s laws work. How wonderful! How Fearsome!

I was considering that abiding in the will of God is like men and women living in earth’s atmosphere. When they leave their natural environment in a rocket ship, let’s say, they essentially take the atmosphere of earth with them into space. In so doing, they remain safe and at peace.

If they expose themselves to the harsh, alien conditions that exist in outer space, they would experience devastation and ultimately, death.

Man was created and designed to abide in the atmosphere of union with God's Spirit. When he rebels, he leaves ‘home’, and is subject to conditions hostile to the true nature of his birth.
