At sunrise
God scatters darkness
by sending His light.
Beaming glory brightens and refreshes.
Its indiscriminate, all-pervasive radiance
is lavish in the extreme.
Life for everyone is warmed,
brightened and nourished in its rays.
Without it, all things perish.
In it, they flourish.
Morning by morning, mercy anew.
No distinction is made,
no merit required,
no privilege regarded.
No one qualified,
no one excluded.

The Sovereign God has spoken:
LIGHT BE!
And the light shone out of darkness.
From that moment in perpetuity
every man on every morning
may share in its plenteous benefits.
God does not each day
recreate that sunrise - that light.
He has spoken.
It is settled forever.
It will, it must, evermore evince
His original intention.

Light is given.
Every good of the sun,
its motion and ministry,
is available to every one.
All may delight in this warming
and gracious shower of life.
Each man, each woman, has power
to avail or to refuse.
One may hide, steal away, or cover.
He can never, though, in truth say
“God withheld His light from me.”

That rising sun is a metaphor.
Day after day it speaks . . .
the relentless and glaring declaration
of the true Light
that lights every man
that comes into the world.

The Bible says it this way,
For God, who said,
Light shall shine out of darkness,
is the One who has shone in our hearts
to give the Light
of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Jesus Christ.

What the sun does for the earth
and all that dwell therein,
So, the Son of Righteousness,
does for all mankind.
His shining puts to flight all darkness,
His blood cleanses and restores.
His radiance blesses,
and makes all things new.
His presence quickens, invigorates, and empowers.
He is the Word of God’s Salvation
freely given to every man
for one only reason . . .
His never-ceasing goodness.

Receive Him, then,
as your sole inner Treasure.
And walk in the Light of Life

Who is this dazzling Champion?
Who, this glimmering Hope? . . .

The Sovereign God has spoken to us by his Son,
whom he appointed heir of all things,
through whom also he created the world.
He is the radiance of the glory of God
and the exact imprint of his nature,
and he upholds the universe
by the word of his power.

God is merciful,
abounding in lovingkindness.
His Light shines on the evil and the good.
He plays no favorites.
Don’t hide, don’t refuse.
Come to the uncreated Light,
the True Light of the World,
of whom the sun that rose this morning
so faithfully proclaims.
