"God is wise. He knows best. When it's the right time, God will do what He will do." Haven't we all heard that? And perhaps said it ourselves.
'It chust wonders me.' (Said in a Pennsylvania Dutch accent, just the way my Grampa use to say it.) Jesus looks out over the multitude. Hundreds, thousands even, line up to be made free from demonic torment, and every conceivable disease, and every kind of sickness. (The Holy Spirit wanted us to be clear that no malady was exempt from obliteration.)
One by one, every single man, woman, boy and girl was healed by the word Jesus spoke or by the touch of His hand. Surely, the Kingdom of God had come among them.
Yes, it chust wonders me, how could it be perfect timing for each and every one of them?
And how could the timing be just right for everyone who entreated Jesus to be made whole from their affliction at the very time they asked Him?
So, what exactly is the perfect timing of the Lord? Is it when the disciple, endued with the same Spirit and power that raised Christ from the dead, encounters a person in need? Is Jesus showing up again to deliver and heal hurting people inside someone that looks just like you and me? Is that perfect timing?
Is perfect timing whenever Jesus is present? Even if He shows up in us?
Could it be that another name for Jesus is, 'Perfect Timing?'
Jesus is Perfect Timing for miracles. When His followers believe and receive His authority over all the power of the devil, when they speak and touch in His Name, Perfect Timing is Now. I can already hear my brothers presenting their exceptions. No, please, let's not be so quick with exceptions. Put them aside.
We realize that we're not performing the works Christ commanded of us in the degree we may want to. That we haven't seen many miracles among believers does not prove God's power is unavailable. Rather, it reveals that what we have believed doesn't match the Bible.
My main concerns are that we'll forfeit the mantle Jesus conferred on each one of us as His disciples. That we'll continue to refuse the authority He gave us over all the power of the devil. That we'll subjugate the clear word of God to the 'evidence' of our inconsistant track record. That we'll keep doing only what mere humans can do and calling it 'the Gospel.' That we'll persist in pushing our assignment to bring the Kingdom of Heaven with power, back on Jesus. That we'll keep saying, "He'll do the miracles if He wants to."
Come on. No one could read the Gospels and not know for certain Jesus displayed the miracle working God. And that, You shall do the works that I have done, because I go to the Father.
'But I can't do the miracles,' you say, 'only God can.' YES YOU CAN! - In the same way as Jesus who said, of Myself I can do nothing. And yet . . .
You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Acts. 10:38
Jesus did works of power because God was with Him. How are you and I different? Everyone knows it's God's power. But we have been commissioned to do His works. However you square that, we're not excused from doing the impossible while the Spirit of the Living God inhabits us.
Take the authority Christ has freely given you. Believe it and act on it. Do this for several months. You become Jesus' opportunity to display His perfect timing that moment you declare Him in faith.
Today is the day of salvation! Now is the hand of the Lord extended.
