Law presented naked and raw may appear, or be characterized as being, brutal and uncompromising. However, the Law God has given originates from wisdom and proceeds from the heart of compassion, understanding and mercy.
So, while the world culture responds to God's laws regarding adultery or homosexuality as harsh and judgmental, people of faith know that it was from the deepest yearnings of love, and for the highest happiness of his children, that such laws were decreed.
The Doctor makes no apology for the discomfort you endure from his cutting and slicing the cancer from your body. Nor does God curtail the immutability of His laws, seeing as the disease and destruction certainly spawned by your dismissal of them, far exceeds the hideousness of cancer.
Should we see the end from the beginning as God does, we would love His laws and be terrified to disregard them. Fear of man repels us. But the true fear of the Lord ought to draw and attract us to the all-powerful Creator who has sworn by His own name; I will never stop doing you good.
I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul. Jer. 32:39-41 NIV
