Man took a wrong turn when he invented theology. We made God a field of study. We thought that if we knew more, we’d understand God better.
God’s idea was that we do what He told us to do. That would ensure two things:
It would produce understanding. If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God . . . Jn 7:17
It would show our love. He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father . . . Jn 14:21a
Theology studies about God hoping to know and understand. Those with love and faith delight to do His will and, lo and behold Jesus promises . . . I will love him and will disclose Myself to him. Jn 14:21b
Oh, I can now hear the tsk, tsk, tsk of the lofty learned saying, "There's nothing wrong with good theology." And I would quickly concur . . . as long as your 'good theology' keeps you going and doing.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Mt 7:21
