Scene 1:
Moses leads the people out of Egypt with Pharaoh’s army in pursuit. Now he stand’s facing the Red Sea so he cries out to God. And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me?
Moses is probably thinking he made a good and reasonable choice by crying out to the Lord, given his perilous circumstances.
But God says: speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward: But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
Scene 2:
At the vision of the valley of the dry bones, the Lord asks Ezekiel:
Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest.
How wise, we might conjecture, how reasonable, that Ezekiel deferred to the Lord for the answer.
But the Lord’s answer surprises, Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.
Scene 3:
The multitudes had gathered and Jesus was healing the sick, then . . .
When it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, This is a deserted place, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages and buy themselves food.
The disciples seemed to have arrived at a thoughtful and caring solution . . .
But Jesus said to them, They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.
Curtain Call:
The time comes when the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit, having sufficiently invested in the disciple and imparted knowledge and faith suited to the task, rebuff the cries and the ‘reasonable’ prayers, and firmly command:
You stretch out your hand.
You prophesy and say unto these bones.
You give them something to eat.”
Do you think that time will ever come for us?
O disciple, thou knowest.
