There's the package under your tree. It's wrapped in plain brown paper and tied with a wide red ribbon. The tag says, "Open Me. I'm Yours."
It's been under your tree all your life, even before you were born. Actually, everybody has the same package under their trees.
I'm going to spoil it for you just a little by telling you what's in the box. Simply knowing the names of what's inside is only a tiny enticement. It cannot please, delight or astound you like opening it and having it all your own.
The box contains boundless freedom, exhilarating joy and peace beyond human comprehension. All included in the ever-unfolding mystery of the never-ending life of God.
To you this salvation is full and free. Though the ribbon reminds you of its staggering price tag - the lifeblood of God's own Son, Jesus.
The package is oft ignored. Perhaps because it's not eye-catching. When people hear what's in it they have mixed reactions. Some run to it and rip it open eagerly. They are desperate for relief from the anguish and troubles of this life. They relish the invitation to a brand new start.
Some are still delighted in themselves, believing they're doing quite fine on their own. And while their mountain stands they feel no need for invisible promises. They notice the box under the tree but avert their eyes. They suppress the enticements from deep within, then double-down on vain distractions.
The package remains just the same - all yours. Filled with eternity's riches to experience right now and always. Your part is so easy. Instructions are on the tag:
"Open Me. I'm Yours."
