There is a born identity - an identity we inherit, learn and adopt.

Insisting on our right to keep our old identity – a good one or a bad one, compromises and undermines the identity God gives us of newness of life in Christ.

Paul’s identity as a Hebrew of the Hebrews added no points to the new man he’d become. Peter’s failures did not subtract from his being a new creation in Christ.

Both men could use their old man (self-governed life) as a reference point, but when all counted, it was dung.

To walk free as children of God, we must embrace the identity given us by Him who set us free. He wants to pour His new wine into a new wine skin.

Ask Him, “Lord, who do You say that I am?”
