Grace does not waive our legal offenses. It places them upon the cross where appropriate punishment was enacted.
One who takes lightly his legal offenses, is prone to lightly regard his legal benefits. Our legal benefits in Christ are empowered by grace. Or, we are empowered by grace to apprehend and experience the legal permissions that are rightfully ours.
Our sins and transgressions were legally paid for by the blood of Christ. The extreme benefits procured for us by that same blood and death and resurrection, are legally ours. Bought and paid for.
Just for starters our license includes the glorious freedom of the children of God, and the authority to use Jesus’ Name to accomplish His purposes, and power over all the works of the devil, and the right to pronounce blessing, declare life and speak peace upon others . . . joining God in calling the things which are not, to come into being.
For many Christians, the word ‘legalism’ has leprosy. If we become more legalistic toward our rights and privileges, might that ‘leprosy’ turn into a fearless liberty to advance the howling Good News of Christ’s Kingdom?
