Desire ignites faith. Affections fan its flames. That's why men in any field, driven by passion, may accomplish large things.
And that's why God promises to be found by anyone who seeks Him . . . with all of your heart.
If our experience of heaven's realities seems scant compared to what we've longed for and expected as sons and daughters of God, maybe we should consider the direction of our desires, the focus of our affections.
Once, for love, we left all to follow Jesus. It was the most reasonable and critical choice we'd ever made. Now our Lover and King says, 'pick one: cold or hot.'
The desires and affections of our first love can roar and rumble to white hot blazes again, but not by wishing and hoping.
We must pump our own bellows, now, and press again and again. Our tepid words will still be spit away. It's our zealous love that draws Him - to feel the burning heat, see the surging flames, and hear the thunderous wildfire of our passion.
Feigned affections will not do, neither pretending desires. Let's get this back - whatever it takes. This Love divine, all loves excelling.
