Who are we? Why are we alive?

It may take a few minutes to process that question and even longer to articulate a thoughtful, honest answer.

To minimize our difficulties and maximize our pleasures is the prevailing occupation of most of earth’s inhabitants. That includes Christians.

Thankfully, the Word of God presents plenty of clear instructions for His children regarding who we are and why we live, leaving us no need for guessing or uncertainty. One particularly thrilling word occurs in 1 Peter 2:9:

But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God's OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

Behold the names God calls us, and the assignment worthy of such names. What an astounding and humbling privilege our Savior offers!

Lord, open us to the gravity of these words, as we unite with Your Spirit to be transformed by them.
