When God commissioned Joshua to enter the land of Promise, He gave him words to equip him to be successful. Joshua needed to believe and embrace God’s words of promise to enter the land of promise. Here’s what God said to Joshua:
- I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.
- No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life.
- As I was with Moses, so I will be with you;
- I will never leave you nor forsake you.
- Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. Joshua 1:3-6
By the Spirit of God, Jeremiah the prophet gave God’s words of promise to those who would be born again as new creatures in the coming Kingdom of Christ. These words of promise, if believed and embraced, will equip and give success to those who would walk in newness of life. In this case the Land of Promise is living in the Promise of the Father – the life in the Holy Spirit.
Here’s what God says to us:
- They shall be My people, and I will be their God;
- and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear Me always, for their own good and for the good of their children after them.
- I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good;
- and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me.
- I will rejoice over them to do them good and will faithfully plant them in this land with all My heart and with all My soul. Jer. 32:38-41
Joshua fully understood that the promise of God was a done deal. If God said the land was his; it was his.
Joshua could live in that promise, only, by believing God’s word and being courageous in his faith.
